In the heart of the West of Ireland, just beside the lovely little town of Westport, you’ll come to a unique guesthouse. The owner is a Frenchman who fell in love with this place over 15 years ago.
The property consists of 4 traditional Irish cottages set in a huge, stone wall-enclosed garden a short distance from the ocean. Tranquillity, beauty, peace and quiet and all the home comforts you could wish for... this is a magical place that will make for a holiday you’ll never forget.
There are 5 bedrooms with ensuite bathroom, from 40 to 60 € per person per night. You have the option of reserving anything from one bedroom to an entire house.
Guests have the use of 3 different living areas, complete with a fireplace and a stove. One lounge includes a grand piano and a harp for any budding musicians.
We have private facilities to help you stay in shape, including a sauna and a hot tub with ocean views. The hardiest souls can go swimming in the sea in front of the house...
Taking it easy, walking, music, chatting with the owner and home-made porter cake washed down with a good cup of tea are some of the delights that await you.
There are two golf courses are located just a few minutes’ drive away. You can go fishing or horse-riding along the beach. Westport has a wide selection of shops and pubs, just 5 km distant. If you fancy a day trip, Connemara, North Mayo and Achill Island are less than an hour away by car.
Evening meals are served (book in advance), and include a pre-dinner drink and appetizers and dinner: mussels from the bay, lobster, lamb, Carraholly cheese, pastries made from the garden’s own crop of apples and blackcurrants.
Day 1 ♦♦ Morning: Set off for Connemara via the Delphi Valley. Incredible countryside. Take a boat trip from Killary Harbour ♦ Lunch: Clifden, Leenane ♦ Afternoon: Joyce Country, take tea at Cashel House, where General de Gaulle stayed ♦ Evening meal: In the cosy, friendly setting of Windmill Cottage.
Day 2 ♦♦ Morning: Mulranny, Achill Island, the cliffs of the Atlantic Drive and Clew Bay, near Dooagh, at the very end of the Drive. ♦ Lunch: We’ve some good suggestions of places to eat such as Achill Sound or Keel ♦ Afternoon: take a walk in the mountains of Achill ♦ Evening meal: why not relax in the hot tub and have a sauna to unwind before your pre-dinner drink and evening meal.
Should you stay for 4 or 5 days...
You could spend a day in North Mayo: cliffs, the Ceide Fields, the moors and peat bogs. ♦ Take half a day to climb Croagh Patrick, which lies just opposite the house, before enjoying a cup of tea and a slice of porter cake or else a good Guinness. ♦ You could also simply have a quiet day of reading and music, alone in front of the ocean, topped off with a special barbecued lobster lunch.
